Learning analytics is a relatively new but rapidly growing research and practice area, becoming increasingly important in the era of artificial intelligence. FOI has distinguished itself in this field through its work and achievements, both in the Croatian and global research contexts. Full Prof. Blaženka Divjak, PhD is internationally recognized as one of the key experts and serves as the Vice President of SoLAR, while the Learning Analytics Laboratory continuously conducts relevant research and projects, particularly through the Erasmus+ iLed project and the HRZZ TRUELA project.
In line with this, FOI achieved outstanding results at LAK25. During the pre-conference program, Prof. Blaženka Divjak and members of the Learning Analytics Laboratory—Darko Grabar, Barbi Svetec and Petra Vondra—collaborated with colleagues from the Open University (UK) and Monash University (Australia) to lead an interactive workshop on learning design for the third consecutive year. The workshop featured FOI’s innovative Balanced Design Planning tool (learning-design.eu), which is free to use and has already been adopted in over 40 countries worldwide. Additionally, Prof. Blaženka Divjak co-organized a workshop on learning analytics and assessment with colleagues from Monash University (Australia), the University of South Australia, the University of Wisconsin (USA), and the University of Hong Kong.
The conference also featured presentations of the research findings from the HRZZ HELA project team and the FOI Strategic Planning and Decision-Making Laboratory, led by Full Prof. Nina Begičević Ređep, PhD.
Furthermore, two scientific papers were presented at the conference. The paper titled “The Impact of Learning Design on the Mastery of Learning Outcomes in Higher Education” was authored by Prof. Blaženka Divjak and Barbi Svetec in collaboration with researchers from the University of South Australia, Abhinav Barthakur, PhD and Prof. Vitomir Kovanović. The second paper, “Decoding Learning Design Decisions: A Cluster Analysis of 12,749 Teaching and Learning Activities”, was co-authored by Prof. Divjak and researchers from the Open University UK, Josmaria Albuquerque, PhD and Prof. Bart Rienties, PhD.
Finally, the FOI team presented two research posters:
- “Learning Analytics Reporting Framework (LARF): Insights into Existing Research on Adoption and Use of Learning Analytics”, authored by Barbara Šlibar, PhD, Full Prof. Diana Šimić, PhD, Sabina Rako, Jelena Gusić Munđar and Prof. Begičević Ređep (related to the HRZZ HELA project).
- “Educator-AI Partnership: Paving the Way to Sound Learning Design”, authored by Prof. Blaženka Divjak, Josipa Bađari, Darko Grabar, Barbi Svetec and Petra Vondra (related to the HRZZ TRUELA and Erasmus+ iLed projects).
With these achievements, FOI once again confirmed its strong presence and influence in the global field of learning analytics research.
