The first revised higher education qualification standards entered into the HKO Register are FOI's university bachelor's degree in informatics and master's degree in informatics

Created: 26.02.2025

The Faculty of Organization and Informatics has become the first higher education institution in the Republic of Croatia to successfully establish and subsequently revise qualification standards related to its study programs, extending their validity. These qualifications - Bachelor of Informatics and Master of Informatic - have now been updated in the Croatian Qualifications Framework Register (HKO).

This significant step reaffirms FOI’s commitment to the continuous improvement of higher education and the alignment of study programs with the dynamic changes in the IT profession. The rapid advancement of technology and constant changes in the labor market pose a major challenge for higher education institutions: ensuring that graduates are equipped with knowledge and skills relevant to modern jobs in the IT sector. Recognizing this need, FOI initiated a comprehensive project for the development of qualification and occupational standards several years ago, and with this year’s revision of standards, it has further reinforced its leading role in this process - stated FOI Dean Full Prof. Marina Klačmer Čalopa, Ph.D.

What Does the Revision of Qualification Standards Mean?

Qualification standards are a key reform tool in the education system that ensures the alignment of academic programs with labor market needs. Their revision involves analyzing and updating learning outcomes to ensure that students acquire competencies that match the real-world requirements of IT sector employers.

The evaluation committee of the Agency for Science and Higher Education conducted a detailed evaluation process and issued a positive expert opinion on the revised qualification standards.

During the analysis, key elements such as the justification and alignment of the qualification, its profile, level, and scope, defined sets of learning outcomes, and the quality of the qualification acquisition process were assessed. Based on the submitted documentation, it was determined that the revised standards meet all prescribed professional requirements and have been successfully registered in the Register.

With this step, FOI continues to proactively shape the future of higher education in Croatia, particularly in the field of informatics, where ensuring continuous development of competencies and adaptation to evolving technologies is of utmost importance. By introducing qualification standards and regularly revising them, FOI enables students to obtain recognized and competitive degrees that align with European education and labor market trends. Through this process, FOI students gain a clear understanding of the competencies they acquire during their studies, while employers can be confident that future employees are prepared to work in a modern digital environment.

By continuously adapting educational standards, FOI reaffirms its commitment to the development of the IT profession, ensuring program alignment with technological advancements and industry requirements.
