This year's FOI Career Week gathered 70 companies and many early career development events

FOI's Career week – the most important point of gathering for FOI students and their future employers is happening from October 21 until October 25, 2024. This year's event brought together representatives of around 70 companies and provides opportunities for students to engage in expert workshops, panel discussions and a conference as well as to connect with employers in the informal part of the event.

 

The event that opened the Career week on Monday, October 21 is a panel discussion on the topic of managing expectations in career development. Experts in the field – Jelena Jelušić, HR & Employer Branding Consultant @INSPO Consulting, Vatroslav Mileusnić, Co-founder @Tabu.hr (FOI alumni), Goran Kovačević, VP of Business Development @Infinum (FOI alumni), Marko Možina, COO @Emil Frey Digital and Saša Erak, VP of Engineering @Infobip gave their insights on the state of the labor market and demystify the employment in the IT. With moderator Ivan Brezak Brkan, founder of Netokracija students were enabled to plan their own job search and prepare for the labour market challenges.

On Tuesday, October 22, FOI students had the opportunity to learn about the possibilities for starting their own businesses and seek advices from experienced entrepreneurs. In addition to existing programs in which potential entrepreneurs can get involved, attendees learned valuable information about FOI's project of the Regional Center for Pre-Incubation in Smart Industry, the first such academic center in Croatia. With the moderation of the head of the project, prof. Ph. D. Nina Begičević Ređep speakers Hrvoje Ćosić, CEO @Aircash, Dražen Oreščanin, Founder @BIRD Incubator, Marijana Šarolić Robić, VP @CRO Startup and Andrijana Mrkela, Co-founder and Lead UI/UX Designer @Northwest Agency shared their insights.

The third day, October 23, brought to FOI a variety of professionals for a full-day Tech&Business Talks@FOI conference. Ten short inspiring talks and three keynote speakers with inspiring talks on IT and business will present the news and trends of the industry. Keynote speakers were: Ivan Bešlić, Co-Founder & CSO @SofaScore & President @CISEx, Matija Grabar, Chairman of the Supervisory Board @CRATIS and Marko Velić, Software Engineering Manager @Google. The talks were given by Kaja Pavlinić, COO @Speck, Kristijan Kanižaj, Strategic Product Manager @SICK Mobilisis, Matija Matijevac, CEO @Maidea & CTO @Zuluhood, Ines Oštrić, Regional Recruitment & Employer Branding Manager @L'Oreal Adria, Nevena Smolić, Director of Planning and IT Change Management Department @OTP banka, Ana Milas, Director of Marketing & Business Development @Serengeti, Mario Špicar, Software Development Department Director @Infigo IS, Ines Barbir, Director IT Business Applications @Konzum, Ivan Kušanić, Director of the Data Management Support Directorate and Analytical Systems Development @Hrvatska poštanska banka and Luka Šmic, Director of Product Management@BURAI (FOI alumni).

Students were also able to gain new knowledge at a panel discussion with FOI Start-up companies which took place on the last day of the Career week – Friday, October 25 FOI alumni Luka Klancir, IT Director@Feromihin&CEO @Async Labs, Matija Kopić, CO- founder & Board Member @Gideon, Jakov Glavina, president of the board and Filip Bel, director @DoMore and Frano Primorac, Founder & Disaster Manager @Choncha spoke to Karlo Kukec about their experience from students to successful entrepreneurs. The program ended with informal socialising and networking with FOI alumni.

Additionally, FOI’s Student support and career development centre hosted a gathering of career counsellors and other interested faculty employees. The topic was the importance of career centres and cooperation with industry in the procedures of (re)accreditation of higher education institutions.

During the Career week, as part of the networking possibility, students learned not only about the companies present, but also about the SUZG FOI itself and several high schools that will present opportunities for employment/professional internships or other forms of cooperation, along with the possibility of using the international exchange program. Representatives of student associations that operate at SUZG FOI were available for all questions regarding their work and activities, which provide an opportunity for additional experience that every student will find useful in their resume.
