The award for excellence of the Rotary Club Varaždin is the longest-standing Rotary award of its kind in Croatia, with which this Rotary Club seeks to promote excellence in our community and reward the best high school students and the most excellent students of higher education institutions. Dean of FOI, Full Prof. Marina Klačmer Čalopa, Ph.D. pointed out that the combination of knowledge and excellence achieved by the awarded pupils and students is priceless. Knowledge without excellence is unused potential, while excellence without knowledge can be ineffective. Only when we combine them, we get a powerful tool for change towards development, social progress, but also personal fulfillment. I congratulate the members of the Varaždin Rotary Club for recognizing the importance of awarding young people, for additionally motivating and encouraging excellence with such an award, and most of all, I congratulate our today's laureates because with their commitment and diligence, they have confirmed the thesis that investing in knowledge and excellence pays off in the end.
Let's also mention that this Award is named after Prof. Franjo Ruža after the first dean and founder of the Faculty of Organization and Informatics and one of the three founders of the Varaždin Rotary Club. During his lifetime, university professor Franjo Ruža provided assistance and financing to many students, especially for studies abroad.
